I found one of these 1897 50 centavos coins in a mix of world coins that I bought recently. Searches have not turned up much other than this blog site with the photo. Can anyone tell me anything about the coin? Was it minted in 1897 or later? Coins from the 1890's currently for sell on eBay do not look the same. In fact, I can't find any 50 centavos coins with the same 12 sided shape or design. Would appreciate any info, links, etc. Thanks.
Thanks! It is an interesting coin, even if fairly common. Maybe not quite as interesting as the "1371" [1951-2] 10 franc Marco coin in the last mix I bought, but still a nice find. Of course I knew that other coin wasn't 630+ years old, but the actual age of this coin wasn't as obvious because of the wear.
I actually found one someone else had listed: https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-618280891-moneda-de-coleccion-50-centavos-mexicanos-con-error-ano-1893-_JM

Jon - these are actually from 1997, and after posting this, I was told they are fairly common. Really cool error though!
